Sound Off for July 30, 2020
World without classrooms
I agree with the demand for virtual learning. We should make it permanent and put total effort into developing virtual aids for parents to teach their kids at home. Then, we should not re-new the contracts of any classroom teachers and reduce home owner taxation for schools accordingly. Of course, kids with bad parents, or single parents with jobs, will end up dumb as a brick. Be careful about what you ask for.
Did You Know?
In many Coast districts, teachers were never surveyed about a return to school. That if they quit, they can lose their teaching license for a year. Make no mistake, teachers are not complicit in traditional reopenings; they are captives of it.
Name changes
Now that MGCCC has deleted the name of Jeff Davis Campus we should petition the state to change the names of the following counties for the same reason: Calhoun, Forrest, Jefferson Davis and Lee. Let us please remove any vestige of Civil War history.
Purgers
I see MGCCC has removed Jeff Davis’ name from the Gulfport campus. Next I suppose all the purgers will want to remove his name from his home as well for good measure.
Reporting violations
So relieved to hear Comrade Dobbs wants us to report each other to the health department. We can all sleep a little better at night knowing our livelihood is in his hands. Can’t wait to hear about the next Marxist tactic our government is going to impose on us.
Patriotism
We have been fighting this virus for 4 months. If we had locked down, sheltered in place and wore masks, it probably would have been controlled. What we have now is more uncertainty, misinformation, unproven cures and a crumbling economy.
Not my job
A customer at the post office was not wearing a mask although she had one around her neck. She was there about 15 min. and no one said anything. When I suggested to a postal employee tell the lady to put on the mask, she told me I could tell her. I feel that’s the responsibility of the staff. Employees need to do their jobs.
