Sound Off for July 28, 2020
To: the whole story
Yes, undoubtedly there are two sides of the story about the city cutting its ties with The Friends of the Mary C. O’Keefe, but please don’t blame the Sun Herald for not having the city’s side of the story. The city has not offered its side of the story. Because I am a member of The Mary C., I have read and re-read the story, trying to understand what is going on. Whatever complaints that Shea and the aldermen had, they did not tell The Mary C what they were before they sent the 90-day letter nor did they give The Mary C a chance to address those complaints.
Flag petition
The Sun Herald wouldn’t dare print anything about requests to place the current flag on the ballot. The governor or the press can’t be concerned about the will of the people.
New disaster
I’m willing to bet that, when all is said and done, COVID-19 will wipe away our collective memory of Katrina, just like Katrina wiped away the memory of Camille.
Best for teachers = best for all
It’s shameful the way these “traditional reopening” districts are sending news crews to film teachers “grinning and bearing it” when they’re simultaneously forcing teachers to choose between their lives and their livelihoods. Especially since we proved in April and May that there are other options for education that aren’t as risky. Parents: call your districts and tell them hybrid, distance, or nothing.
Walmart and masks
Tonight went to Walmart in D’Iberville for the weekly grocery run. Very happy to see most everyone wearing masks. My wife questioned the front-end manager why mask rules were not being enforced on the handful of idiots without a mask. She claimed that until President Trump issues a presidential order there is nothing they can do. I cry bull. Walmart has made masks mandatory, Gov. Reeves has mandated masks in Harrison County.
A lot to lose
“Opening schools“ says we should open schools after Labor Day because we should know by then whether the mask mandate is working. Besides, what do we have to lose, a few children?
