Sound Off for July 25, 2020
A bad example
July 24 edition of Sun Herald shows on the front-page a picture of J. Mack Varner wearing a mask over his mouth leaving his nose uncovered. Varner was chosen to select a flag to replace the current Mississippi flag. Perhaps he needs to be trained on how to properly wear a mask. .
Fair fencing
Recently there has been a change in regards to privacy fencing in the City of Biloxi. Regardless of the ruling, it is always proper to make sure your privacy fencing is attractive to your neighbors. Double siding the pickets allows a smooth side for everyone. At the very least give your neighbor the option of placing pickets on their side of the fencing in addition to your side.
Opening schools
Schools should open after Labor Day. Let’s give the mask mandate a chance to work. We should know by then if the spread of COVID-19 has slowed. It’s called common sense.
Postpone opening
Tate, you are becoming more and more disappointing. Postpone the start of school ’til September. These last-minute schools need more time. They also need to get on board with their parents and stop the secret-keeping.
Closed doors
Maybe there wouldn’t be a lack of information about the Mary C. if the Dobson administration didn’t make a decision in a secret, behind closed doors meeting.
Spread love
Mississippi is religiously diverse. Most are Christians, but there are also congregations of Buddhists, Hindus, Jews and Muslims, plus many are non-religious. How would we Christians like it if our new flag said “In Allah We Trust” or “In Humanity Alone We Trust”? Either it should say nothing religious or “In Love We Trust.”
Outdoor theater
Why not set up an outdoor drive-in theater and let local restaurants cater the event with the same festival booths they use year-round? The main ground rule will be to only leave your car for the restroom line and limit the length of the restroom line. The vendors can take phone orders and deliver directly to the customer’s car. This will provide a safe outlet for everyone and make a profit for the organizers and vendors.
