Sound Off for July 16, 2020
Not following rules
I went to several retail stores in D’Iberville. I thought the mandatory mask requirement was suppose to be in effect. I saw about the same number of people wearing masks as last week. As long as you have a mask hanging around your neck you are apparently good to go.
Big thanks
I want to thank Hometown Lumber for requiring masks. This is what all Mississippi business should do.
Mask maintenance
My place of employment requires all employees to wear a mask but does not provide masks. I have noticed a few employees wear the same mask day-in and day-out. I brought up the subject of washing, changing or cleaning masks. None of my fellow workmates had any idea of when or why to change masks, proper cleaning techniques, and when to wear the mask outside of work!
Heartless
If you don’t want to wear a mask, it’s not dumb, it’s heartless. This lets everyone know you have no care for your fellow man. We wear one to protect others.
Cancel culture
How should a man’s life be evaluated? John C. Stennis was a Democrat holding the beliefs of segregation during that time period. He was known as “the father of America’s modern Navy” for his efforts to rebuild the Navy after WWII. He was also known as “the conscience of the United States Senate” for standing up and censuring Communist-baiting Sen. Joseph McCarthy. Also Joe Biden praised Stennis as a mentor to him. Should his name be removed by the cancel culture mob?
Turn the page
Mississippi Republican delegation supporting Stennis designations might profit from a trip abroad: Drafted into the U.S. Army during Vietnam conflict, I later served some months in Germany where I saw no Himmler Lane, no Dr. Mengele Park, not even an Adolf H. School there, where they know how to turn their heinous historical page.
Prosperity
This is so sad. Sen. Stennis was not a perfect man. The work he did to bring economic prosperity to Mississippi far outweighs the poor choices of his earlier life. Look at all the jobs the space center and the shipyard have brought to this area.
