Sound Off for July 13, 2020
Real reason
I’m not surprised that the Coast has had a drastic increase in coronavirus. The answer to why can be answered in one word: tourists. Stop the tourists and cases will plummet.
Little decisions
In the July 9 newspaper, the front-page headline was “COVID-19 cases skyrocketing.” On that very same day, the condominium I live in took down all the social distancing signs in our four elevators! I wonder why this virus is skyrocketing. Maybe a lot of little bad decisions can add up to one major disaster.
Greatest
If you believe we are great at managing COVID, consider this: globally, the U.S. has the greatest number of deaths.
Show come care
It is purely selfish and uncaring for anyone to visit an elderly “at risk” individual without taking the necessary precautions (wearing a mask plus social distance) to prevent them from contracting COVID. Once this vulnerable person contracts it, forget about trying to visit them in a hospital. That won’t happen. Most elderly people are too nice to ask you to wear a mask when you visit them. But then, you should not have to be told. You should care enough about the person to just do it.
Bad judgment
Boeing’s communications chief resigned this week after an employee complained of an article he wrote 33 years ago. That’s ridiculous. People, hopefully, grow and mature over time. It’s called the school of hard knocks, wisdom and a few other euphemisms but what if the employee who complained is measured by the same scale one day? The Bible says “judge not, lest you be judged also.”
Monitors needed
Thanks to the casinos for making the wearing of face masks mandatory, however, I don’t think wearing one under your chin while smoking is not what the gaming commission had in mind. The casino staff needs to monitor this more closely for the safety of everyone. How about making them all non-smoking while this pandemic exists?
Forum needed
We need a forum by where we can list businesses that do not require their employees to wear masks. It’s time for businesses to start putting health before the almighty dollar.
