Sound Off for July 11, 2020

Stay healthy

I just hope and pray that I can avoid COVID-19 until November so I can vote!

Brown water

So the Gautier mayor has big plans for the abandoned property at the so called Singing River mall. He needs to come to my house now and smell my foul smelling brown water water. Try drinking it! Disgusting. Kentwood is making a fortune in my neighborhood delivery good water.

Self check-out

I know people need groceries, but they should boycott the stores that have more self-checkouts than cashiers! These stores are saving payroll by making customers work for them for free. And no discount for using self-checkout!

Names

There are over 40 cities, towns, and counties in the United States named after Jefferson Davis or Andrew Jackson. Will they be changing their names?

To blame

Large barbecues. Crowded bars. Packed restaurants. Throngs milling around in Walmart. People piled up on the beaches. Tons coming from states overrun with cases. You allowing even more people to gather. No masks. No distancing. No punishments. There’s your reason for the spike in cases, Tater!

Only human

We cannot change history by removing monuments. Every human being and every country make mistakes. One of America’s big mistakes was slavery. It led to 600,000 brave young men being killed in the Civil War. It also led to the mess we are living through today with the monuments, divisiveness and riots. We should acknowledge our mistakes and remember and build on our accomplishments and strengths.

Suitable location?

Since state law provides that a public monument can only be moved to a more suitable location, I suggest the Confederate statue at the Harrison County courthouse be relocated to the sewerage treatment facility adjoining the golf course on Washington Avenue and Gulfport Lake. It’s certainly a more suitable location.

Paving

Would Gulfport please pave 20 th Street from 29th Avenue to 42nd Avenue? How bad does it have to get?
