Sound Off for June 30, 2020

Small price

This is a response to “Hidden Fees,” who complained about the $5 fee for renewing his driver’s license online. In this difficult time with COVID-19 cases soaring, I would think this is a small price to pay to limit exposure to the virus.

Courageous

During his four years as governor, I don’t recall Phil Bryant ever calling for doing away with the current state flag. Now, all of sudden-when he’s not running for office-he takes a stand. My, my, such courage!

Please tell me

Can someone please tell me what the difference is between a Confederate statue and naming a street after Martin Luther King Jr.?

College students

I watched Dr. Dobbs talk about how “people aren’t following the rules,” how “social gatherings are one of our biggest problems,”,] and how “these are the things that are killing us.” Can someone please tell me how college students are supposed to safely return in a few weeks?

Flag

I am glad to hear Mississippi will change it’s flag, but why does the new flag have to include the words, “In God we trust?” That just changes one discrimination for another.

Finally

The Miss. Legislature adopted the flag in 1894, just like today’s Legislature got rid of it.

Means so much

So proud of MS House and Senate to vote to remove the state flag. You have made a positive move for all Mississippians. Thank you.

Education supervision

Kudos to Shad White for his report on the cost of education supervision. In the workplace, supervision is generally paid 10% more than those supervised, not 100%.

More than 1 percent

To “One Percent,” the rate of infection is higher than 1%. For the sake of argument, we’ll just use 1%. The U.S. population is 331,002,651 and 1% of that is 3,310,026. That’s a lot of people! That’s more than the population of Mississippi! Almost half of those 3 million are at higher risks of complications resulting in hospitalization, ventilation and possibly death.
