Sound Off for June 29, 2020

Bad decision

What is wrong with Ocean Spring’s Mayor Shea Dobson? For him to promote a Fourth of July celebration is nothing but crazy. He obviously does not care about the safety of his citizens to want to put their lives in danger of contracting COVID-19. He needs to go at the next election.

Elected

Perhaps it’s time to remind state leaders at all levels of government they were elected to represent all Mississippians. Please don’t make decisions affecting everyone based upon your individual beliefs or efforts to cater to individual groups. Get the facts. Consider all opinions. Then choose a course of action in the best interest of the majority.

Maskless doc

I was totally shocked when my doctor was not wearing a face mask when I went in for my appointment. I was told over the phone to wear one. All staff were wearing a mask except for the doctor, who, naturally, was within a foot of my face during the checkup. This makes no sense.

Prevent death

Knock it off everyone! I’m sick of all the debates. Just wear a mask for God’s sake! It’s a chance to save someone from getting sick and dying. Love thy neighbor, keep them healthy. Wear a mask!

Not even close

Tearing down, burning and destroying monuments is not even close to the same as book burning. You burn a copy of a book to make a point. There are thousands or millions of other copies. The monuments, Washington, Lincoln, Grant, etc. belong to all of the people. It is a crime to destroy them.

Civil liberties

People claiming a violation of civil liberties because they have to wear a mask need to cast away their political affiliation and open their eyes. Seat belts are mandatory, you must have auto insurance, no shoes, no shirt, no service, on and on. These things are in the interest of public safety, not a violation of civil liberty.

More division

The divisive Confederate emblem needs to be replaced with something everyone can agree on, perhaps a magnolia blossom or bird, but not the state seal, which displays a religious belief breaching the separation of church and state. Don’t we have enough trouble and lawsuits?
