Sound Off for June 27, 2020

God Bless America

At Mars Landing in Ocean Springs, four men showed up to play bagpipes while the sun went down. The most amazing part was, no one was fighting over the flag. No one was protesting about whose lives matter most. No one said one word about President Trump. There were 30 vehicles filled with friends and family. I saw many races and both sexes represented. This is what America means to me. A melting pot of different people with different backgrounds listening to bagpipes play as the sun set.

Unity needed

After waiting to hear the president’s rally speech, I have come to the decision that I can no longer vote for a man that spent his entire speech promoting his ego and division of the American people. We have to remember that we are Americans first and not a political party. We need unity.

State flag

If economic development had been put to a public vote, the state would probably have never been able to get Nissan and Toyota to locate here. Let the legislators we elected do their job.

Democratic way

This current Mississippi state flag was voted on and passed by the voters of Mississippi. If the state flag is to be replaced or kept, then the voters should make that decision! That’s the democratic way, majority rules.

Hidden fees

After hearing all the horror stories about renewing a driver’s license in person, and the fact that one has to drive so far to get to an office, I decided to try the online renewal. First of all, the website is not user-friendly at all. Then, after finally getting all the information in, I find out a four-year license that costs $24 face value in the end actually costs over $29. You would think that with all that is going on right now the state would give you a break on some of those hidden fees.

Memorials

George III, Santa Anna, Victoria, Tongzhi, Alfonso XIII, Davis, Carranza, Wilhelm II, Hitler, Kim, Minh and others were leaders of armies whose aim it was to kill Americans. We need history books to inform us who these people were, and why they did what they did. We do not need monuments to memorialize them.
