Beautification
Thank you to whoever is landscaping downtown Gulfport! You are doing a great job. It is a pleasure to enjoy the beautiful plants and trees.
Dim future
It is wonderful to see that Biloxi High School ‘s students and faculty receive recognition for all their hard work and dedication. But it is also so discouraging to know at least 10 former and present students are in prison for violent crimes. Our Coast communities need to urgently address this. Our schools and communities need to be more open about mental health and providing more services for our children.
Heavy boots
Upon reflection of those who believe that being ordered to wear a mask is an impingement upon their rights, then if the South had a plethora of rattlesnake births resulting in, on average, 1 rattlesnake per every 10 square feet, then would a heavy boot mandate be the same?
Morality
Historians have an axiom that ancestors cannot be judged by today’s standards. Morality changes with time. Denigrating those who were traitors at time is excusable.
Free thinking
Beauvoir library has been listed as “racist and wrong ideology.” How can on find out if it is by accepting someone else’s determination? I don’t want to be told what is right or wrong, let me figure it out!
Book burning
Pulling down a monument is the same as book burning. It’s done by people ignorant of history. Now we have a division of the American Library Association removing a literary landmark designation from the presidential library at Beauvoir. It has 58,000 titles that are invaluable. You don’t have to believe what a book says to value it. The ALA action is another form of book burning.
Not ashamed
For the person writing “Riots” ashamed to be an American and live in South MS, my recommendation to that person is to move from South MS, renounce their American citizenship and find a better place. South Mississippi is a place that has wonderful food, weather, friendly people, reasonable housing, living costs and peaceful protests. I do agree there is always a need for change and improvements, but to say you are ashamed!
