Sound Off for June 22, 2020
SEC threats
Good plan! Let’s just change the name from South Eastern Conference to the NSEC: Nothing Southern Eastern Conference. What are these people thinking? American by birth, Southern by the grace of God!
Who’s to blame
Harry Sanders, a Lowndes County supervisor, is correct that African Americans have had a harder time assimilating into American life than other groups of people. That is true because white people have made it as hard as possible for them to assimilate. Anyone who thinks otherwise is simply ignorant of history. (I am white.)
Sad
How sad the smiling faces of Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben will be erased from future generations. Sara Lee better watch out! The Political Correction Police will surely dig deep enough to find an infraction in her past.
Optional
The NHTSA estimates 15,000 lives are saved each year by the mandatory wearing of seat belts. Over 200,000 people are expected to die from COVID-19 this year. One has to wonder how many of those lives could be saved simply by wearing face masks. Yet their use remains optional.
Testing
Why did it take an employee to get infected for the state Capitol to offer testing? Testing should be required for all employees returning to work.
Slavery still here
I am amazed at how so many people of all colors are sadly ignoring the fact that slavery is alive and thriving right now. Sex trafficking is very much a problem, but I don’t see anyone protesting in the streets for the many people trapped in this horrific situation. Let’s focus on what is happening now and not the horror from past mistakes.
Enough is enough
Ok, enough is enough. It is time our politicians around the country start thinking about the American people first — not their reelection, not their stocks, not their image. There are over 3,000 cases in CA, TX, and FL, and opening too soon puts people in jeopardy! Stop talking about it and do something!
