Sound Off for June 18, 2020
In the Right Direction
At least one city in Mississippi had the courage to move forward and fly a symbol that represent all their residents. Congratulations Gulfport on removing a racist symbol that has placed a stigma on the residents of this state as being backward-thinking, uncaring supremacists. As I see it, Ocean Springs will not until the mayor and entire board of aldermen are removed.
Next please
I woke up Wednesday morning feeling so much better since the Gulfport City Council unanimously voted to take down the Confederate flag. I know this is just beginning, so what’s next?
Small-minded
The majority of Mississippi voters made their voices heard when they voted for the current state flag design. Now the small-minded town council of the small town of Gulfport has voted to not fly the flag. I have also decided that I will not shop, eat or visit Gulfport. I will not support a spineless small town which is controlled by spineless little people who are afraid of the whiners.
History
History can change the future, but the future can’t change the history.
Stennis flag
Why are we talking about a new design for our state flag? What is wrong with the Stennis flag? It incorporates the past, present and future all in One. A very attractive flag too. Re: the Magnolia Flag, Alabama already calls itself the Magnolia State.
Public safety
If the ex-mayor had been left to her own devices in the drunken state she was in she may have been hurt even more, or worse! The good cops of Ocean Springs apparently attempted to make contact with someone at the house. No one there. They used discretion and Moran is alive and well to complain about her “harassment.”
Gotta love that bridge
Every time I walk the Biloxi/Ocean Springs bridge, I am forever grateful to then Mayor Moran for standing firm on plans that included a protected pedestrian-bike lane between the cities — as well as picturesque promenades that pass beneath it. Visitors love it and so do we!
