Sound Off for June 14, 2020

Changing history

Has anyone ever changed history? Of course not. We wish we could in many circumstances, but it is impossible. We learn from history and hopefully make better present and future decisions, but you can’t change history. Make this country better by looking in the rear view mirror, but don’t think you can drive by the past and make history correct itself. Anyone in an accident would love to go back to the past and redo the future.

Tate’s actions

A Friday Sun Herald headline reads “Reeves lifts restaurant, bar curfews as COVID-19 spreads.” So, like the man he emulates in Washington, he is now personally responsible for each and every death in this state.

A time period

The country group Lady Antebellum, following the rush by entertainers to appear “woke” and empathetic, decided to change their name to Lady A. Antebellum is a perfectly ordinary adjective. It is Latin in origin, meaning before the war. In this instance, before the Civil War. It references a time period.

Be vocal

When will moderates and conservatives become as vocal as the extremists on the left? No one thinks what happened in Minnesota is acceptable, but the young protesters are being easily overshadowed by the extremists they are following.

The media

You are playing with fire, and people will realize the media is the problem eventually. Four years of dancing around the truth, inflaming everybody who is on your side and confusing others with disinformation.

No flags

Do states really need a flag? Let’s get rid of all state flags. Now every state is equal.

Take a stand

Biloxi removed the state flag in 2017. The time has come for all of the Coast cities to do the same. I don’t understand the reluctance to take a stand for racial harmony.

Advance planning

I sure hope the aquarium planners included the installation of charging stations in the parking garage. Folks driving RV’s will be checking the availability in advance of driving in.
