Sound Off for June 2, 2020
Share dignity
We are facing such heartbreaking tragedy as a country and I personally cannot cure the ills — but I can treat my fellow man and woman with dignity, respect and tolerance. God help us all.
Ignorance
Dear Petal mayor Hal Marx, if someone is cutting off circulation to your brain by applying pressure to your carotid arteries, there will be a feeling of suffocation until brain cells die because of lack of oxygen. Stroke and brain death ensues, stopping the respiratory drive. I have been waiting for some ignorant person use Mr. Floyd’s ability to talk as a defense. I just didn’t expect it to be a elected official.
Kneeling
To Take Two Knees: Kaepernick kneeling had a lot to do with our military, in which I served. I’m proud to have been one of many who helped secure his right to kneel, and I’ll continue supporting his right to protest.
Civil disobedience
Civil disobedience is one thing; out-in-out criminal action cannot be tolerated. Dr. Martin Luther King is looking down with tears in his eyes. So sad!
Domestic terrorism
What happened to George Floyd is a tragedy, the result of one man’s actions for which he will be tried. Looting, stealing, destruction and violence have nothing to do with that. It’s anarchists. They would love more bloodshed to justify more chaos and death around the country, which makes it difficult for police to control. There is organization and funding behind it, and I hope those people are identified and treated as domestic terrorists. Charge them with treason, murder, inciting violence and terrorism.
Good protesters
I agree with peaceful protests. But burning, looting and destroying property is destroying what the peaceful protesters have accomplished. The looters are no better than the bad cops. There are so many good cops and protesters.
Progress
I watched Space-X launch with great pride and disappointment on Saturday. Pride because the U.S. is back in space. Disappointment because we put a man on the moon 50 years ago. Not much progress!
