Sound Off for May 22, 2020

Trust

Why do we blame the media for reporting news that does not support our narrative, but will use one article as truth when it does? That Washington Post headline stated that “it appears” that there is no one left to test. You should have read the body of the article and not just the headline.

The full story

To “Testing” Sound Off claiming the Washington Post said there aren’t enough people to test as COVID-19 testing expands in the U.S. The opening paragraph clarified. “A new problem has emerged: too few people lining up to get tested.” An entirely different meaning from the hot air you pushed out.

Burl Cain

I’m stunned to see that Reeves is bringing in Burl Cain to head the prisons in Mississippi. I guess he wanted to ensure a criminal was running the operation since it would be housing criminals. Stand by to see real cronyism and a doubling down of criminal activity. You ain’t seen nothing yet!

Continue curbside

Customers beware! Restaurants instituted curbside to-go which was great for both parties. Being a senior citizen, I was very appreciative and always left a generous tip. Even though dine-in has opened, I still must only use curbside. When I placed our order, I made sure the team member knew it was for curbside. No problem, no discussion. When my 75-year-old husband arrived for the order, he was told he would have to come in because we did not order and pay online. That did not happen. It will be a chilly day in Hades before we go back.

Logic

These ideas sound logical to me. Testing and tracing are the keys to restarting our economy. Test all frontline employees and hot spots like prisons, nursing homes, etc. Quarantine the small percentage who test positive. Then the majority would feel safe to work, shop, travel, gamble, etc. A small investment up front would reap great rewards in health and income for Mississippians.

Casino dangers

What is so important about going to a casino, losing money, taking a huge chance of getting the virus, taking it home to your family and making them sick and possibly die? Sounds like a lose-lose situation to me.
