Sound Off for May 21, 2020
Kids and COVID-19
Parents, wake up and pay attention to what this virus is doing to children in this country. Children are dying from the virus causing a severe inflammatory process throughout their body including the heart. Why would you want to drag your kids along with you to Walmart and everywhere else to expose them unnecessarily to this virus?
I am afraid
I have a legitimate fear of a virus we know little about. Seems just about every day we are learning something new that arises from being infected. It’s far beyond an “old person’s disease.” Young, healthy people are seeing devastating effects. So yes, I am afraid. For one of my children who will be forced to go back to work in a casino. For another who is a nurse. For my elderly mother. Even for my grandchild. If you can’t get that this virus can and will infect anyone and adhere to safety protocols then you are the one who needs to stay home!
Better masks
Mississippi casinos, let’s play smart with this novel idea used elsewhere — protect your wonderful, professional employees by getting volunteer 3D printer owners to make unobtrusive plastic face masks for your employees, to protect them from gaming guests as they order food, drinks, and ask questions, etc. “Unobtrusive” meaning these plastic masks will not hinder breathing. They deflect much better than cloth masks.
How to vote
I stand in line at the grocery store to checkout. I won’t mind standing in line to vote. The Democrats oppose voter ID and want vote by mail. If that comes to pass it will destroy our Republic.
Testing
Oh, it’s tragically ironic. A Washington Post front page tells readers that as COVID-19 testing expands it appears there aren’t enough people to test. What? After months of claiming America lagged the world in response and testing capacity, while preaching predictions of runaway infections, the anti-Trump narrative will have to change their tune.
Bad job
I am also an independent and agree with the writer of “Who is President.” My only exception is I don’t think the problem is that people don’t accept Trump as president, but more about how bad a job he is doing in the role.
