Sound Off for May 17, 2020
Smoke-free
I looked it up, and only 20% of people smoke in the USA. I think that if 80% of people don’t smoke, we should not be exposed to it in any establishment, anywhere. It should be a state law in Mississippi not to smoke in any public places. Just think about the poor casino employees that have to work under those conditions 24-7. If all casinos were nonsmoking, they would all be on the same playing field. Let’s do it before they reopen this month. It would surely make it a safer place to go.
Laws laws laws
Why does every American feel the need to scream for a law forbidding people from doing anything they don’t approve of doing? If you don’t like the evil sweaty gym, then don’t go. If you don’t like the evil smoke-ridden casino then don’t go. If someone asks you to go simply reply “no thank you.”
Linked
To “Forced choices,” I don’t like the fact that my chances of survival seemed to be linked to the common sense (or lack thereof) of others. I support your choice not to protect yourself. But are you so selfish as to risk infecting relatives, friends and others around you? If the answer is “Yes” then please sign a release that absolves your health insurance, doctors, nurses and other health care workers of any responsibility for your care when you come down with COVID-19.
Kudos
Kudos to our wonderful employees of Walmart. We shop on Sunday 7 a.m. Special kudos to workers at the front entrance. They maintain sanitized buggies for customers. To LB and all staff of produce. To all others who are out stocking, wiping and cleaning. You are always busy, but never too busy to say hello to customers or direct them to the right aisle. You are the best!
Public notice
Regarding business owners that complain about their “rights” to sicken others by not complying with sanitary measures and wearing masks. I think they should be required to post their noncompliance on their doors so people can make informed decisions if they want to do business with them.
Store closures
Remember when all the stores were closed every Sunday and Wednesday afternoons? The good ole days.
