Sound Off for May 8, 2020
Character
Why did Brett Favre take money for something he had agreed to do and then failed to do? What example does that set for all the kids who look up to him and what does that say about his character?
Real news
Okay, all you “fake news” experts! Here’s a real story for you! A retired, multi-millionaire NFL quarterback from our very own state took $1.1 million in unearned fees from a federal welfare fund fraud. He decides to return it when the story breaks, but not before. Is this “real” news or not?
Do the right thing
It is cruel to not let Mervin English attend his firstborn son’s funeral. Where is the compassion at in Mississippi? Regardless if he is in jail , I have been to many funerals where a person was brought from a jail with escort to pay their last respects to someone who was not an immediate family member. Lord have mercy on your souls for keeping him from saying goodbye for the last time to his son. Please let him say goodbye.
Language
There’s always been a discussion about the difference between the use of “due to” and “because of”. Businesses are closed because of the virus, not due to. The businesses do not have the virus. They are closed because of it.
Editor’s note: Thanks for the reminder, we sent your note to the newsroom!
You don’t get it
Telling people who are cautious about catching the virus to stay at home means you do not understand how it spreads. If there is a spike we will all be affected. This will mean starting all over with the quarantine.
No excuse
I ordered my masks 3 weeks ago also but I still have a few I kept on hand before the virus. However, you can buy a cloth mask sold locally from someone so that is no excuse to not wear one.
To ‘Can’t find masks’
I have bought many cloth masks at Gulf Coast Wardrobe in D’Iberville on Gorenflo Road. When I was there last week, they had plenty already made and you can pick and choose what you want.
