Sound Off for April 30, 2020
Second wave
“A second wave of coronavirus infections is being seen in China after social distancing guidelines were relaxed.“ That from ABC News Sunday night. Demonstrators and protesters, pay attention!
Perspective
Perspective of how serious the coronavirus pandemic is:
- Vietnam War: 58,000 U.S. deaths over 7 years. Coronavirus: 58,000 U.S. deaths over the past 7 weeks.
- World War Two: Average of approx. 300 U.S. deaths per day. Coronavirus: Current average of approx. 2,000 deaths per day.
- The flu kills between 12,000 and 61,000 per year. Coronavirus: 58,000 in less than two months.
Not immortal
Just saw the TV coverage on the C-130 flyovers — outrageous! The video showed people in the parking lot, on the street, talking to TV reporters, a lady distributing tiny U. S. flags, and even medical people on the roof of the hospital and nobody was wearing masks and no one was observing any type of safe distancing! Some people must think they’re immortal.
Job loss
To “Say again” needing the logic explained about the governor’s comment regarding economic damage not hitting everyone fairly, it’s simple. Some people are still working while many others have lost their jobs due to no fault of their own.
What the heck
Small businesses again get the short stick. Our current administration has ignored needy small business by providing money to the wealthy large corporations: the Lakers, Ruth Chris, many others, etc. You voted them in, vote them out. Unbelievable.
Where to buy
For the person asking where to get masks: I bought great ones at the Long Beach Farmers’ Market on the Town Green. They are made and sold by Poppe’s Kitchen. Available in three sizes, kids, standard and large, each mask costs $6. Get yours between 8 a.m. and noon Saturday.
Open the country
Hitting a milestone at 1 million cases of COVID-19, the percentage of death is .058 in the United States. It’s way past time to get things kicking. We need small businesses open now!
