Sound Off for April 14, 2020

Good music

The Mississippi Songwriters Songs From Home TV Show on Friday and Saturday evenings are a great example of Mississippian’s doing something for the good in these times! Donating their time and talent and offering kind words along with their music is the reason Mississippi is considered the birthplace of America’s music!

Access denied

I am livid. My wife and I stood in line this morning at the Keesler AFB Commissary a half hour before opening only to be refused access! Two second lieutenants were poorly chosen to notify all those in the long line of crusty old military retirees who subsequently voiced lively displeasure! I then demanded to speak to the commissary manager who finally showed up and offered a worthless apology. The base commander apparently decided retirees could only shop on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Get with the program

Went to the Walmart Neighborhood Market. Dutifully wore my mask and took along sanitizing hand wipes. Fully three-quarters of the shoppers had no face coverings of any kind. No wonder the virus keeps spreading. C’mon big box stores, require at least a bandana before you let shoppers in the door. A hand sanitizing station at the door would also help. Rouses has one. You can too.

Bye Brady

Brett Favre and Peyton Manning with Hall of fame careers were forced from their teams, moved to so-so teams and made them very good. Brady left a similar career at the Pats voluntarily. Were the Pats good due to Brady or Belichick? Prediction: Pats have a great season and Tampa Bay mediocre.

Knee jerk

Disappointed to see your Miss. State Coach Leach NY Times hit piece. Yes, his tweet was in poor taste, but making everything racial isn’t good for anyone. Yes, there’s a horrific history of lynching. However, before knee jerks to make a “grandma knitted noose” racial, think of Nathan Hale hanged by the British, Judge Roy Bean and other so-called hanging judges of the Old West, Delaware hanging through 199,6 etc. Get a grip, people.

Don’t forget

Let us not forget the Bonnie Carre is still open with devastation to the environment and our lives.
