Sound Off for April 13, 2020

Pettiness

Pointing out someones flaws constantly does not endear you, it makes you look petty.

Big business

Why do we have to bail out the airline industry again. How many times have we done this before and for the automakers? Next thing will be the cruise lines. You know the post office is whining again oto. They don’t know how to manage money so they tell Congress to pass a law or bill to get them out of a bind and then the debt goes up and so do taxes. It always falls back to the taxpayers to pick up the slack. All of big business should give us a break on tickets just as a show of appreciation, but no, they go up on ticket sales and ask the taxpayers for more.

Outdated

The unemployment systems are terribly outdated and understaffed. People need their benefits and can’t apply. The governor here and some in other states asked people who don’t immediately need their benefits to hold off on applying to ease the strain on a flooded old system. Lots of people do have the means to wait a while to apply. Lots of people do need their benefits now to get by. It was a polite request not unemployment martial law or anything.

Stay home

Several articles in today’s paper were referring to the disparity between the ethnicities of who is getting the coronavirus. I live in a very diverse neighborhood, we have whites, blacks, Hispanics, young, old, children, etc. The only group I have witnessed congregating in large numbers, grilling out, throwing parties, have been the black families. Maybe the disparity has more to do with common sense than race.

Curfew watch

It’s after 11 p.m. and I’m checking the MDOT traffic cameras statewide. On the Coast I see one or two vehicles, both PD. Other areas, about the same. Jackson, is almost as busy as a regular day. What gives, Gov?

Where are the masks?

So, facemasks, hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes have not been available since middle or early March. I understand that many of these supplies are being diverted to hospitals, jails and police stations, etc. At what point do they stop collecting months worth? Additionally, I see many people wearing facemasks. Where did they get them?
