Sound Off for April 5, 2020
Look it up
Everyone needs to research this. South Korea Successfully battled COVID-19 while the U.S. didn’t.
Flatten it
The only way to make shelter in place work is to close places like Dillard’s, Dad’s Pawn Shop, Sunkist golf course, Lowe’s, insurance offices, law offices, car dealerships, etc. for two weeks. Essential business should be limited to grocery stores, drug stores, gas stations, drive-thru banking and all medical services. We all want this to be over now, so let’s get serious and do what is necessary to flatten that curve.
Cruise ships
Whose brilliant idea was it to kick the cruise ships out of Gulfport? Supporting a ship tied up to a pier requires minimal effort; and as long as the crew is ordered to stay on board, poses minimal risk to Mississippi. At a time when the state could use the income more than ever, we’ll be watching money sail away; and in the future when the cruise ships need a port of call, Mississippi will move to the bottom of their list.
Miss the point
I believe some of you who questioned the reader who wondered whether banks were essential businesses didn’t read the post thoroughly. He or she stated that if these businesses are indeed essential, not all employees should be required to report to work if they can do so from home. Those are the employees that should be sent home until further notice.
Only essentials
Making an essential run to the grocery store, armed with face mask and gloves, I noticed the parking lot was full, and traffic not going to the grocery store was ridiculous. No wonder Jackson County has the most COVID 19 in the state. Do they think they are immune?
Take the lead
Since it took Reeves to take his lead from Trump to shut down the state, what is his contingency plan if we are threatened by a hurricane? Will he have to wait on 45 to tell him what to do? God forbid!
Bring it back
Today I read the New England Patriots plane was in China picking up a million face masks. Putin sent a plane load of medical equipment to the US. Our problem is we have nothing manufactured in our country anymore. I hope we don’t continue to rely on China.
