Sound Off for March 29, 2020
Waiting
I have now been waiting for two weeks to hear Gov. Reeves comment on his Spain trip. Has he been tested? Has his family been tested? What precautions did he take upon return? COVID-19 has been around since December. Why go to Spain in the first place?
Share the love
I love, love, love the feature Tiny Love that appears in the Friday edition. The glimpses into other’s moments of love found and love lost touch memory cords in my own heart that begin a sweet soft sound in the recesses of my own being. As the song says “late in December it’s nice to remember...”
Too much debris
In response to “Burn bans needed,” the city will only pick up 3 cubic yards per resident (in my location). Calling in does no good. Anyone doing any sort of meaningful yard work exceeds this silly limit, leading to several months of the same debris waiting for pickup. We need more trucks!
Remember
I believe the original location of John Bell importers was the Sun and Sand Motel in Biloxi. Final Location was east Beach Gulfport, a few blocks from Courthouse Road. Later it was a Chinese restaurant and finally the Carousel lighting store. The Gulfport location was west of courthouse around Texas Avenue.
Do something
It is on the shoulders of each mayor to see to it that businesses are adhering to the 6-foot rule. Each police chief should direct officers to spot check and if any business is in violation, issue a one-time warning, and the next offense, pull that businesses license to operate.
No. 1
As a result of the Governor’s confusing and conflicting virus proclamation, I received calls from concerned friends and family in Pennsylvania. They could not understand how he could direct less preventive measures. Thankfully the local mayors pushed back. Our national reputation for being number one in all things dumb continues.
America’s sorrow
I believe the U.S. flags should fly half staff to honor all who have died alone from this insidious disease. It should not be just for statesmen. These people got sick without fault, not even a decent funeral. Can’t we honor them some way?
