Sound Off for March 17, 2020

Just trashy

It’s just human nature, to be eager to put out political signs during a campaign, then, be deficient in energy to remove them after the campaign, but, the concept of “fools names in fools places” comes to mind. Campaign supporters do a disservice to their candidates when they fail to participate in the cleanup process.

Preparation

Just in case you didn’t know, Trump disbanded Obama’s pandemic team two years ago. Trump also refused virus testing kits from the World Health Organization. We were the only country that refused them. Google it.

What’s the plan?

China had no cure for COVID-19 so they isolated the sick and treated them. Italy didn’t take the pandemic seriously until infections passed 24,000 and 368 died in one day — and then they shut down! Who’s next?

Wrong ship

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to determine what cruise ship should be at anchor 18 miles out in the Gulf. The Carnival Valor that had the passenger that tested positive for the coronavirus should be at anchor 18 miles out in the Gulf, not tied up at the dock.

Where is our leadership?

Schools are closing, all sports are canceled, people going wild at the grocery stores, and the officials are telling people to stay home. I know they canceled the events at the Coliseum but that is not enough. Wake up Gulf Coast Leaders.

No Palazzo

For those who didn’t read Roll Call in Sunday’s Herald, our congressman was not present for votes on several major issues this past week. This included coronavirus relief, foreign intelligence surveillance, and congressional war powers. Where was our representative?

No ships

The three cruise ships should not be allowed to dock in Gulfport Harbor. Sun Herald tells us that their home ports cannot receive them. The coronavirus situation dictates that Gulfport, like the home ports, should not allow these ships in our harbor. I do not believe that we can trust the claim that no one will get off these ships. Who is benefiting from this dangerous decision?
