Sound Off for March 13, 2020

Really?

Are our officials crazy or ignorant! Really, spring break is still on and so are big events. No wonder we are rated last in everything done in Mississippi. No leadership, common sense and/or led by the almighty dollar.

No discrimination

The coronavirus knows no ethnicity. It does not matter what country you are from, what language you speak, how much money you make, how superior you think you are, it does not discriminate.

Close casinos

It is negligent to not order the closures of the casinos in Mississippi during this declared global pandemic, and emergency. Casinos are crowded, enclosed environments with surfaces that are perfect for holding the virus after contamination. Customers and staff could become infected. They will carry these infections back to their families, and people could die. Leaving the casinos open is enough alone to spread the virus through the state. The infections will be traced back to the casinos, and the reputation of the industry in this state destroyed. Our leaders have made high-sounding statements, but their actions show a clear disregard for the public safety. Eventually the casinos will be closed during this outbreak one way or another.

Isolation

People stock up on toilet paper because we still need to go every day. Even if the stores close down. If quarantine is imposed, some people prefer to be prepared. Leaves aren't a great option.

Union or sick leave

Just because you’re not a union employee does not mean you don’t have sick leave at your place of employment. As a small business owner I have always given my employees sick leave. It’s called competition! If you don’t offer it you won’t get good employees!

Court system

I could not sleep after reading how this poor child was treated by his caretakers. Why are two child abusers free! They have abused and tortured a child, yet they are free! This child’s life has been changed forever. Why did the social workers let these people keep this child after knowing he was being abused. We need to change this now!
