Sound Off for March 10, 2020

Wacky

I fail to see how determining whether a person voting is, in fact, legally allowed to. It is not racist to confirm citizenship of voters when they register to vote. It is responsible of our government to insure the outcome of an election is not tainted by people who vote early and often, by dead people voting, or illegal citizens voting to support those who protect their status. I am not opposed to immigration. I am a second-generation American. I am very opposed to illegal immigration.

EBT cards

Is it really allowed to use these cards in restaurants? I thought this was to help people out, not pay for restaurant meals.

Not the problem

Wine sales are not the problem. Large grocery stores do research to determine competition/profit before opening new stores. Winn-Dixie sells wine in Florida and other states, they are here.

Hysteria

Perhaps the most useful outcome of the worldwide hysteria about the coronavirus will be that the worlds nations will have learned how effective (or ineffective) their epidemic responses are while dealing with a virus that has a 2-3% fatality rate...versus learning on one that has a 50% fatality rate.

Time for a change

The Gulfport administration is lacking. Their only claim for an accomplishment is the aquarium and that is going to have to be subsidized by the city to “keep it afloat.” The temporary flat rate for water isn’t the answer as sewer will go back to three times the water bill plus garbage which is outrageous.

Absentee

All Coast employees who “point” or penalize their employees who call in due to illness need to suspend or amend this policy to protect the public immediately. If they are not proactive now and suspend this policy they will be aiding the spread of illness.

Thank you

This past Wednesday afternoon, I had an episode where I collapsed and could not even move a finger. My son called 911 and the Acadian Ambulance crew, Ocean Springs Fire Department and Ocean Springs Police Department all responded very quickly. Believe me every one of these individuals performed in an outstanding manner. I don’t know any of their names, but I would like to thank and commend each and every one of them for their help.
