Sound Off for March 9, 2020

Lack of ethics

It should be of little surprise the City of D’Iberville refuses to release mugshots and files concerning the arrest Councilman Robby Ellis. Though I believe the Chief Payne and Court Clerk Pattie Jackson are good people, it can’t be said about the city management, city attorney and other leaders. So much for ethics and transparency.

More tickets

Please tell me where these police are giving out tickets. I rarely see a patrol car on the street, let alone handling traffic issues, calls or actually patrolling neighborhoods. The posted speed limit on the street behind me is 25 mph. I could count on one hand the number who actually obey.

Crazy times

I also got a ticket in Gulfport for driving 38 mph. Sounds like misplaced priorities.

In response to “Speed Trap,” of course the speed limit would seem “unusually low” if the observer is accustomed to going unusually fast. Keep up the enforcement, police officers. By the way, if I happen to be going a little too fast for a speed zone and get caught, it’ll be my own fault. I’ll just pay the fine, toe the line, and will not whine.

Winer

There is a Whole Foods in Jackson. We don’t have nice grocery stores is because Walmart has eliminated the competition in small towns.

Different treatment

Who does embezzler Christina Lee Mullins know? She commits a felony, gets to pay back a few dollars, attend counseling and 30 hours of community service, and remain at home from midnight til 6 a.m. (like everyone else does) and then she gets record expunged? What kind of district attorneys office let’s felons off without more than cost of a DUI?

Flawed system

Under our for profit-based and extremely expensive medical care system, only the fortunate insured and wealthy are able to get adequate medical care. Therefore many or most of the virus afflicted people will not be able to get adequate care which will lead to a spread of the disease.

Work needed

I looked in the paper under service ads and called two people for a small carpentry job. The first I waited three weeks and had four dates set up for him to come do the work. He never showed up. I called another one and it has been almost two weeks. I sat home two days waiting and he hasn’t shown up. These people should understand it is better to be honest up front and say they do not want the job or they don’t have the time. My new policy is one call and done. If they don’t show up, then try someone else.
