Sound Off for March 8, 2020

No contact

Now is the time for the Biloxi Diocese to announce a total suspension of the “sign of peace” (handshaking) at the masses until this coronavirus is dealt with.

Re: snowbird

To the Snowbird in Diamondhead whose Sound Off was published on March 5 concerning a “Love and Ethics” sign in her front yard: It is not about religion, honey. It’s an ordinance in Diamondhead that no signs are allowed, period! You may want to check out the other ordinances for your neighborhood while you are at it.

Wacky Watson

The new Secretary of State Michael Watson has raised the same ugly racist head that he showcased on the campaign of state Sen. Chris McDaniel in his vitriolic race vs. venerable Thad Cochran. This proof of citizenship angle is geared to keep good ole boys right where they are — running everything they can in Mississippi government. It’s comical that one of the questioners in the committee meeting tossing the softball question to Watson to make his point was none other than McDaniel!

No surprise

It should be no surprise that there will be no charges filed in the recent hate crime drama during the Waveland Mardi Gras parade. The reason is simple. No crime was committed. I am sure there will still be some who want to believe the worst regarding this unfortunate incident. It is a shame that there were so many willing to try and convict without evidence. They are usually the ones telling us not to prejudge until the investigation is complete.

Responsibility

There are so many people in Long beach who leave guns in unlocked cars that it is common knowledge among criminals. The gun owners should be held responsible for all crimes committed with their gun just as if they were there and participated unless they reported it stolen beforehand. That should take care of the problem.

Disheartening

It is disheartening to me that Pete Buttigieg has ended his presidential campaign. As part of my generation, he understands firsthand the economic plight many of us millennials are still struggling with in the aftermath of the Great Recession. If anyone is going to fix the problem it’s going to be a fellow millennial. I have little faith in the ability of the generations that caused the problem to fix it.

Pickleball

Just heard Gulfport Leisure Services is going to add Pickleball court striping to the Second Street tennis court. That is good news. Pickleball is a fast growing sport especially among senior citizens.
