Sound Off for Feb. 27, 2020
Refreshing
It is quite refreshing to see all inputs of Sound Off today to have no reference to politics or other negativity. Especially pleased to not see the “unanswerable, general inquiries.”
Full disclosure
Thanks to the Herald for printing the details of the domestic violence incident involving a member of our state legislature. If the voters send this person back to Jackson as their representative after the next election, they will be getting what they deserve.
At wit’s end
As a business owner in Ocean Springs, I’m becoming increasingly frustrated with the protected rights of individuals loitering around in my parking lot and aggressively bothering my customers for money to the point of pushing them to shop elsewhere. When I call the police to protect my property, I’m told that it’s not illegal to panhandle in Ocean Springs. So essentially the rights and feelings of the panhandlers are worth more than the survival of my business and my tax dollars? Good to know.
Fix it, please
I know this will sound like a broken record but, please Mississippi, do something about the efficiency of the DMV. After getting there at 7 a.m. to stand in line outside (fortunately it wasn’t raining or extremely cold), the doors opened and and the line continued to snake around inside to finally get a “number to wait” and we were fortunate enough to get a chair while there was standing room-only a few minutes later. I checked around to different locations only to see some of them are closed w/o notice due to staff shortages. It’s a shame people have to take a personal day or vacation day to sit and wait to get a driver’s license. I know there are kiosks and you can do online and I tried but kept getting message to go into DMV. They couldn’t tell me why either.
Erratic driving
If you see me driving erratically, swerving in my lane, or perhaps going over into another lane, no worries. I am only trying to avoid the man covers without damaging my car.
Pandemic
Considering the fact that the US military is rotationally resident in better than a hundred countries around the globe, including South Korea, Italy and others where COVID-19 is ramping up exponentially, I can’t help wonder where are stories/studies/news from the Pentagon concerning the risks to our troops and those with whom they come in contact, i.e. you and me?
