Sound Off for Feb. 25, 2020

Procedure?

After watching the body-cam video from the Douglas McLeod arrest, is it normal procedure for a policeman to knock on the door and tell the accused why you are there then allow the alleged accused to go back in the house with the door closed for multiple minutes yelling at the accuser? It seems to me someone could get really hurt or killed. If that is normal procedure it really needs to be changed.

Private matter

Was it really necessary for the Sun Herald to make public all the private details of that domestic violence situation, the 911 call plus the audio and video? Regardless of who the person is that is involved, whether a public official or whomever, it is a private family matter that should be kept private. I think that it was not only inappropriate but insensitive as well.

Long Beach biz

It is disappointing to see that the only reference to Long Beach in the paper today, regarding business development, was for two liquor licenses.

Mardi garbage

Driving through D’Iberville first thing Monday morning is a bit of a shock this week. Garbage everywhere! Obviously Mardi Gras was yesterday in D’Iberville.

Must-read

To the writer of “Flooding” in the Friday/Saturday Sound Off, please read the book by Mike Tidwell “Bayou Farewell —The rich life and tragic death of lLuisiana’s Cajun coast.” It’s a great and informative book by a great author. It will answer many, many of your questions about where lots and lots of the water could go.

Who’s to blame?

In all of Gulfport’s water billing brouhaha, I have heard not the first word about holding the vendor/provider of the meters accountable! Also, not a single word about why the sewer and sewer transport is way too costly. If this is not an employee problem, not an administrative problem, not a user problem, then all fingers point one way — the makers of and providers of every single meter.

Easy fix

People of Gulfport, you can fix Gulfport. Get out and vote against these present council members. Most have been there way too long. There are many things that need fixing and is it not obvious this present bunch won’t get it done?
