Sound Off for Feb. 14, 2020

It's foggy, people!

The weather forecast says we will have fog for the next few days, maybe even a week or more. Turn on your headlights and just leave them on. Modern cars will automatically turn them off for you, then the switch will already be on for your next trip.

What fog?

This morning while I was running my school bus route, I saw lots of cars driving in heavy fog without headlights on, and also saw two Gulfport police cars also driving without headlights on. We were taught at a young age to put our low beams on in fog.

Fair share

Even funnier to hear an anti-liberal explain their version of fair share taxes. Taxes are always a moving target! The only rewards our present system of government is giving are big to corporations and wealthy, some of which pay no taxes, the top of the food chain. Then there is bottom, the poor who need help. Left is the middle, me and many like me, worked hard all my life, paid my taxes and bills. My government only rewards me by taking my money and giving welfare to the rich! We’re called the middle class, the backbone of this country.

Good luck

The author of “Not free” is upset about the rich not paying their fair share of taxes. The tax laws were passed by the U.S. Congress. The rich are only using these laws. I’m not one of those rich people, but I do look for every loophole I can find when filing my taxes. The solution to the “rich” discrepancy is to have Congress pass new tax laws. Good luck with that!

No privacy

This recently passed bill to check random group tax returns of public aid assistance is needed. The Democrats say, “This is a policy that further punished the poor.” How? If you didn’t lie about your income and received determined amount of assistance, how are you punished? If you lied, then yes, you should be punished. If you get free taxpayer money, my money, you should lose some privacy into your finances.

Tax returns

The state of Mississippi can see the tax returns for welfare recipients after the system was robbed by state employees, but no one can see the president’s returns. To me this again proves that people with power and money are not subjected to the same rules as the poor.
