Front-page photo

Absolute powerful photography. Black historical appreciation done right! The Tulane med students have created a profound homage to the slave ancestors of black America, whose combined genius was not allowed to flower, but is blossoming now. A picture of overcoming!

The other foot?

I read with interest the article about the young black woman in medical school, and how she felt there should be more black doctors. I think that’s laudable. Additionally, she and her peers (all black) formed a group to sell the viral photos to raise money and also accept donations. According to the Sun Herald article: “The money made by the group is used to fund scholarships for students of color applying to medical school.” On its face, this too is laudable. However, I would like to pose this question: What would this young black woman’s position be, if 15 white medical students raised funds for scholarships to be used exclusively by white applicants?

Your history

As a young girl growing up in Germany, I know horrors. Hitler was not able to come to unquestionable, life-and-death power on his own. He had his enablers using state radio and state movies. I remember listening to the radio with my family in constant fear. Americans do not know what horror is until they live under it. You can change the German names of Hitler’s enablers to those you see enabling President Trump. All of Hitler’s enablers believed they too would have their own grand part to play in unquestionable powers. They only needed to keep Hitler front and center. I do not see another Nazi Germany regime rising in this great country. I do however see a great effort to make it so.

Legal question

Question for the law scholars out there. If a citizen has complained about a homeless couple and their aggressive dog loitering in front of various businesses in Ocean Springs, and elected officials and law enforcement have chosen to do nothing, to whom does the citizen direct their attorney when the dog finally bites?

To ‘Meter watch’

The water meters in Gulfport were replaced in 2009/2010. The life span of the electronic meter head was 7 years. The question should be why did the city fail to begin replacing the heads a few years ago instead of waiting for a major failure. As for accuracy, the new meters are much more accurate than the old mechanical meters.

New slogan

Make America Sane Again.

Do you remember?

Do you know you could once buy flour in a sack? And then make clothes? Buying clothe-soap came a free washcloth. And with jelly came a glass. And you could go to a movie with six bottle caps.
