Get what you pay for

Gov. Reeves has money for a teacher pay raise (which is really good), but no money for our prisons. Keeping taxes too low is why this state has no money to pay for necessary programs. Treating prisoners like crap assures that they will leave prison with no remediation. Most successful states have higher taxes where the rich pay more. Illinois has a new tax plan that is progressive. That means the rich will pay their fair share, which they are not paying now. We need their money, and they can spare some for the good of Mississippi.

Meter watch

Does anybody know when Gulfport installed water meters? They are supposed to last 20 years and I’m sure it hasn’t been near that long. I remember them claiming they would pay for themselves because the old ones were so inaccurate.

Iowa caucus

The results of the Iowa Caucus is still undetermined. Wow and this is the party we want to lead our country? You got to be kidding me!

To blame

The caucus mess in Iowa is one person’s fault — Bush’s!

Every vote counts

The popular vote of the individual state determines how the electoral college in the Senate will be cast. So yes your vote counts. It may not turn out the way you want it, but it counts. How would you like for the 5 most populous states decide who the president for the other 45 would be?

Blind obedience

The Republican senators should have at least pretended to be open-minded, called for witnesses and then acquit. By not calling for witnesses, their blind obedience will forever be noted in historical records. Everybody knew what the final verdict was going to be but only some soldiered on and did their job. Future textbooks will not be kind to some current politicians.

Bottom line

Since even the most naive Democrat knew, or should have known, that the Republican-controlled senate would never reach a 2/3 vote to impeach President Trump, what was their bottom line? The only purpose had to be that they wanted to do whatever they could to discredit President Trump and influence the vote in the 2020 election. Now that’s a perfect example of using your elected position for personal gain.

Inmates

Prisoners at Parchman are not parking ticket delinquents, unless it is their third strike. Also, people who cannot make bail and are waiting their trial are kept in prison.
