Sound Off for Feb. 3, 2020
One too many
One death of a inmate in the MDOC system is too many, and its obvious the state can’t control the violence. It’s time for the federal government to take over now. Call in the military!
By choice?
I might be mistaken, but the people in prison have murdered, arm robbed, raped, molested children, drug dealers, human traffickers, habitual DUI’s etc. They choose to be put in prison. What exactly are you thinking they deserve? Maybe after living in a terrible place they might think before they decide to do another crime if they ever get out. The people in Parchman are not locked up because of unpaid parking tickets.
Teacher pay
What was most disturbing about the Sun Herald article on teacher pay was not the $45,000 average salary for teachers but the $14,000 salary for teacher assistants. This is not even above poverty level. Most people don’t understand the responsibility placed on these assistants. They not only teach your child on a daily basis, but also are substitutes for the teacher when they are out, teach reading and math groups in grades 1-3, act as disciplinarian, counselor, nurse and perform many other duties for the teacher. Sometimes they work all day without a bathroom or lunch break. Now tell me who is underpaid.
Not what you say
Trump says a LOT of things at his pep rallies. But he wanted to appeal Obamacare, which protects pre-existing conditions. He, nor the Senate has not passed one alternative. A bill to revise healthcare passed in the House, but McConnell won’t even bring it to the floor.
Actions over words
John of Gulfport writes in his letter to the editor in last Sunday’s paper that, “(W)hile many of us think he may have brought us a better economy, reduced illegal immigration, and improved international trade balances, who can continue to support a man of such low character?” Actions speak louder than PC words. He’s done what he told us he would do. And that’s only in the first 3 years.
In perspective
So, two people on the legitimate payroll of a corporation are paid $3.1 million together for their services on a board of directors. That’s $1.55 million each, if split evenly. Upon further research, I found the average salary of a CEO to be $14.5 million. Ever wonder how much we’re paying all these high-profile lawyers Trump is constantly using for his non-stop need of legal defense? Just one of Trump’s trips to Mar-a-Largo costs taxpayers $3.4 million.
Book sales
I’m sure John Bolton’s book will without a doubt land on the New York Times fiction best sellers list. Then he’ll enjoy the millions of $.
