Sound Off for Jan. 28, 2020

Yellow light needed

The middle of the pedestrian walkway to the Marcy C on Government Street in Ocean Springs is dangerous, particularly at night. What is needed is more street illumination at the crossing and yellow blinking light to warn cars before a fatality occurs. The Marcy C is offering increasingly more public events at night that unsuspecting drivers not familiar with the middle of the crosswalk need to be aware.

Think first

People are forever shooting off their mouths without thinking. Shut Parchman down? And do what with all of the prisoners? And spend how much to build a new prison? And gain what?

Dear ‘Hipocrisy’

In response to your Sound Off on Saturday. It was not the “tax collector,” but rather the deputy tax collector. Just another example of people not reading and understanding.

Martha’s lies

To “Hypocrisy,” Martha Stewart was not jailed for insider trading. She was jailed because she believed that she could lie to the investigators and get away with it, much like some of our current political leaders.

A new contract

I would think that Ed Orgeron is very thankful for Ole Miss’s stupidity.

Pardon me

What’s up with this medieval practice of governors and presidents being able to pardon convicted criminals? It should be abolished. It is an insult to the jury that arrived at the conviction, and if someone thinks the jury did something wrong, that should be handled by established legal procedures.

Different levels

Re: The NFL Saints organization and the Catholic Church scandal. Mention is made in the story of a deacon who is an apparent pedophile. Let’s remember that a deacon is not an ordained priest. They are more like “priest wannabes” who have no official authority of capacity within the Catholic Church. His employment was primarily that of a teacher.

Missing the point

In response to “Colorful,” the writer is trying to divert attention from the real issue. The problem is with the inequality in the justice system. That can be plainly seen by reading the stories in the Sun Herald recently.

Missing dog

On an expedition to Simmons Road in the LaRue Community Saturday morning, we ran across a deceased shepherd-mixed dog in the creek, at the bridge. It had been shot in the head. If this is your dog, my sympathies are with you. Know that I prayed for your peace and comfort, and for your dog to rest in peace.
