Sound Off for Jan. 17, 2020
Hard lesson
To “No mercy,” a few years ago the Sun Herald printed a story of a youngster arrested for DUI, whose father refused to bond him out and left him in jail overnight to teach him a lesson. While incarcerated the youngster was murdered by a fellow inmate with a history of arrests for violent crimes. What words would you say to the family of the deceased, that maybe they all need to “make a few changes?”
Wasted voice
Jail is jail and not home, but a hot and cot isn’t enough because some need medicine and all need someone who listens. Also, innocent people without means or support are in jail wasting away and we all deserve mercy at one time or another. No mercy and only harsh words shows Jesus wasted his voice.
No arrest
I have never met Connie Moran in my life, but as a victim of police brutality I wish to condemn whoever arrested her and took her to jail instead of to a hospital. The poor lady had just lost her mother. Over social media she explained the situation factually and fully, and from that I believe she should have never been arrested, and the Sun Herald should not have sensationalized the story so.
To ‘Grocery dreams’
A Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s or Fresh Market will come to Gulfport and Biloxi only if the Legislature passes a law allowing them to sell wine. Call your representatives.
Fair is fair
Why wasn’t marijuana legalized long ago? Because of the alcohol and tobacco lobbies. They don’t want the competition. But Americans should be free to choose their own sources of pleasure. If not, then alcohol and tobacco should be banned. It is well established how much disease and tragedy they cause. So legalize marijuana for medical and recreational purposes or ban alcohol and tobacco too.
Clarification
Yes, the third rock is on the scientific calendar for an expanding sun to increase heat — but over billions of years; whereas man made carbon dioxide is increasing global temperature over decades and money is not wasted trying to stop that process.
Pollution
Other countries have refused to take in our trash that is not biodegradable. Now the Trump administration is allowing a Taiwan country to dump plastic waste in Louisiana.
Across the pond
For the love of Mike, enough already about the disenchanted royal couple! Our UK cousins are cutting the cord with them and eventually it will be “splitsville” for Harry and Megya!
