Sound Off for Jan. 16, 2019
Wise up
In some states it is unlawful to drive in rain and fog without headlights. Not in Mississippi. I, too, am amazed at the number of drivers who lack the sense to recognize the necessity of headlights in those conditions.
Basic needs
Obviously our state penitentiary has been in disarray for many years. Cannot blame the state for not spending more money on those who chose to disobey the law and were incarcerated. But a mess we have. I just hope that a good plan is developed so our hard earned tax money is not wasted on new, “feel good” social programs on those serving time. Fix the basics needs.
Need a job
My son has been in prison and has been trying to find a job. He has had interviews, but no offers. If folks have done their time and paid their dues, they should be able to find a job. No wonder recidivism is so high. If no employment, then there’s time to go back to old habits.
Liberal shock
In the AP article on Trump being cheered at the football game, the writer felt the need to write a long paragraph explaining why such an unbelievable event could happen. They just don’t get it. Probably going to be a lot more liberal shock in November again.
Make a change
Step up, Gov. Tate Reeves. Many voted for you. Everyone needs either a Mississippi driver’s license or an ID card. When there was one small trailer in D’Iberville to process either of these, it took 30 minutes or under. The staff were efficient and friendly. Now you have to plan for a full day or a day and a half just to get your license or state ID card renewed. This is ridiculous. Make this one of your first things changed as governor because it influences everyone who lives here.
Same old thing
I understand there will be a committee formed to study why Mississippi is losing our young people moving to other states. I suggest you take a look at who just got elected or look in the mirror. As long as the good ole boys keep electing the same good ole boys, we’re going to get the same old thing.
Better informed
I don’t know if the Sun Herald has been editing the Sound Off comments, but they have been more intelligent lately.
A good idea
In view of global warming, I think exporting wood pellets to Europe is a good idea. There will be fewer wild fires because our forests will be gone. Are you listening, Australia?
Amazing views
I too am amazed at the different views people take from the same information. I have always been interested in why this is. I do believe it may be the reason we have Democrats and Republicans.
