Sound Off for Jan. 11, 2020

Aim higher

As the world fights to figure everything out, I’ll be holding doors for strangers, letting people cut in front of me in traffic, saying good morning, keeping babies entertained in grocery lines, stopping to talk to someone who is lonely, sharing food, being patient with sales clerks, smiling at a passerby. Why? Because I will not stand idly by and live in a world where love is invisible. Join me in showing kindness, understanding and judging less. Be kind to a stranger, give grace to friends who are having a bad day, be forgiving with yourself — today and every day. Be the change!

Contrast

The “Can’t hurt” Sound Off is well-written and a very logical approach to a serious global issue. The “Hunter-gatherer” Sound Off, on the other hand, sounds like major alcohol overload.

Proofread

I read a Sound Off post that said “had went.” One only uses “had” before the word “gone.” Either “she went” or “she had gone.” It’s disheartening to see poor grammar as well as ignorance. Please check your facts and your grammar before writing to Sound Off.

Prevailing thought

I totally support those who are rational in the quest to be better stewards of our God given natural resources! But fanatical environmentalists will not waiver. Oil bad, humans bad. Until rational thought prevails we will not come together.

Third rock

I watched “Nova” on MPB on Wednesday night. The program was on the four planets closest to the sun. I was slightly amazed at how they accounted for part of our natural climate changes. They admitted that the sun is steadily expanding and causing the planets to grow warmer. Wonder how much money will be wasted trying to stop that!

No slow

The person who defined the meaning of traffic signs in Bay Saint Louis forgot to mention that speed bump signs meant to see how fast you can cross them and not lose a car part.

No idea

“Besides, most kids are focused on environment anyway.“ No, they are not. The young people I hire at my business have to be taught the basics of recycling. The young people I encounter, and it is a lot of them, have no idea about what is good for the environment.

Wondering

To the Waste Pro guys on our street, why did you empty our big bin of recyclables into your trash pickup Wednesday? Do you not know the difference between them?
