Sound Off for Jan. 7, 2020
Less waste
I would love to see the gyms on the Coast start the new year out with recycle bins so we can deposit our empty plastic bottles in them to recycle. It seems like with a little effort they can make a big difference.
Eat clean
Be aware of any plastic you use daily. Drink tap water, not bottled water or any drink unless it’s in a can, and bring re-usable bags to the grocery store and use over & over. Cloth is great and can easily be thrown in the wash.
Downhill?
Really, the Saints and Patriots both had great seasons. But it looked like they both made bets to lose their games. Both Drew and Tom looked horrible, that’s why football is going downhill!
No patrons
I was driving through Centennial Plaza in Gulfport today and was blown away with the beauty of the place. The problem was no one was there but workers. It was like a ghost town.
Support needed
Many casinos support the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra in many ways that are appreciated, but the board, staff, Guild, volunteers, and other corporate and community sponsors work tirelessly to keep it afloat in a time when many symphonies are folding. The symphony is a valuable asset to the entire Gulf Coast community which is available to anyone who buys a ticket. Sounds by the Sea in Memorial Day weekend is attended by many. The holiday Peppermint Pops is a hit with families. The Youth Orchestra supports young people who are able to develop musical skills which lead to opportunities. Try attending an event! The live music will move you.
Boat launch
The boat launch at Courthouse and U.S. 90 has been in need of dredging for years. When will Gulfport make this a priority? It seems they don’t ever want to take care of the assets we have here. It’s terrible to see things ignored. We should be able to utilize things we have in the city, but instead we are forced to go elsewhere.
Building year
USM football team and coaches need to take a good look at their program in 2020. Their second half against Tulane showed a poor performance by players as well as coaching. Change is due in order to have a better winning season. If you win you will get a bowl bid. Play with heart and smarts the entire game. Enough said.
Please help
Does anybody know of a hair salon that can fit the bill? Requirements are: Be good at color, cut hair consistently as the customer wants. Now the hard part. Keep and honor the appointment book, stay off of your cellphone (your daughter’s problems can wait). Not sure if this person exists, but I would appreciate it if there was one in the Gulfport area
