Sound Off

Sound Off for Jan. 6, 2019

Bad examples

I'll tell you why people are so rude and think only about themselves, think the law does not apply to them and have an attitude of I will do what I want when I want to. This includes drivers who think the speed limit doesn't apply to them. They all see that our elected officials face no consequences for their actions and are just following their example.

Partisan politics

Partisan politics, where one party differs on ideology or policy, is different from letting Trump do whatever he wants and then backing his actions.

One question

We have 12 casinos on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I've worked at three of these casinos. I've noticed it is mainly Christians that are coming in to gamble and drink. And, according to the church, that is a sin. If Christians can have their gambling, a sin, why can't the rest of us Mississippians have our legal marijuana? You know, a herb that God himself put on this Earth for us to use.

Bad spin

I find myself growing increasingly weary of many of the Sound Offs from the Trump supporters. "Twisted facts" is the latest to twist the facts to suit him or herself. Pun intended. Since the portion of the Trump phone call to the President of Ukraine does not find him uttering the words "I want you to interfere in our election," there can be no other reason to ask for an announcement of the initiation of a nonexistent investigation but to interfere in our election. The spin from the right in this instance is among the worst ever.

Bunch of lies?

We are being lied to. Only 9 percent of the total plastic “recycling” gets recycled. It ends up being burned or dumped into landfills or the ocean. Going back to paper bags which are 100 percent recyclable would be a start.

Do what’s best

Universal health care is a worthwhile objective and should not get side tracked by titles. If the best solution is socialistic, so be it. We have had socialistic primary education for more than 100 years and it has not damaged our government. We also have socialistic public libraries and welfare programs. Let's just do what's best.

Pool needed

It is great to see Gulfport has added fitness stations to Jones Park. It would be even greater if it would build a public pool similar to the Natatorium. It would be great for the senior citizens that don’t want or can’t make the long drive to Biloxi to the Donald Snyder, Natatorium or Kroc center pools.

Why they come

If they come for the reasons you say, why do so many insist that we bend to their way of life? They want to change our customs, religion and the way we celebrate our holidays. If those people are so unhappy here that they want us to be like them, maybe they shouldn’t come here in the first place.
