Sound Off for Jan. 4, 2020

Dangerous road

It’s just a matter of time until there is a fatal wreck at U.S. 49 and South Swan Road. Traffic is coming in all directions at this crossing, and often at high speed. A stoplight is our only hope. Highway authorities need to address now.

Will he go?

Jason Garrett, the Dallas Cowboys football coach, is on his way out. Owner Jerry Jones is looking for a replacement. Will Saints coach Sean Payton be interested?

Fewer choices

Cable One managed to stop us from watching Channel 5 in Mobile. Now Sparklight is trying to stop us from watching TV out of New Orleans. What's with this overpriced company? We pay more for their cable with fewer channels.

One question

To the Sound Off writer who thinks the Beau Rivage “...sponsored the beautiful MGM baseball complex...”: If the Beau sponsored it, why is the city obligated to pay over $1 million a year for 20 years to retire the bond that financed the construction of the complex? If you’re going to put your opinion out there, get the facts.

Praise and support

We should praise and support the Democratic members of Congress for being responsible stewards of our Constitution and holding those who threaten our democracy accountable.

Climate change

There have been a lot of complaints and crying about our beautiful Mississippi Sound being nearly destroyed by the opening the Bonnet Carre. And lawsuits. And anger. And posturing. All this, and yet no one seems to want to admit that this may be the new normal. With science telling us that man-made climate change causes much new variation of our weather, this is it. Too much rain in the Midwest, they flood, everybody along the Mississippi River floods, and then they open the spillway in order to not flood New Orleans. Many of the complainers about the spillway opening are voters and supporters of the Republican Party, the party that refuses to believe in the science of our endangered planet. If you wanna help, vote against every Republican.

Great American

I agree with former Attorney General Jim Hood, a Democrat, when he says that “it has gotten so that some people will vote against people they have known all their lives because of a party allegiance. It is almost a fraternity.” The Democrats brought this upon themselves with no respect for the principles upon which our great country was founded. A very good example of that is the recent, totally bogus impeachment, with absolutely no evidence of a great American who is doing a great job as our president.
