Sound Off

Sound Off for Jan. 3, 2020

Thank you

This is a thank you to the gentleman that bought my gas Christmas Eve in Ocean Springs. Your kindness was appreciated.

One omission

This is regarding your list of notable deaths in 2019. I would include your former columnist George Thatcher. A true renaissance man. I feel fortunate to have been his friend.

Action needed

We should impeach the Democratic members of Congress for obstruction of the United States of America.

Enforcement needed

It is illegal to shoot fireworks in Biloxi. However, it's virtually a firing range in Eagle Point and Woolmarket at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31. Why is there no enforcement of this law?

Request answered

I’m a nurse, not an oncologist, but I would donate to MD Anderson Cancer Center. They are currently researching blood tests and imaging techniques that will help detect pancreatic cancer earlier, increasing survival rates.

Great appreciation

A kind friend is legally blind with a seeing-eye dog, and when he walks to the gym by way of Porter Ave and Government Street in Ocean Springs there is always something obstructing his walk on the sidewalks. He has had to dangerously bypass many trash bins, piles of tree limbs and even a big storage trailer. Once he was even hit by a car. Please be mindful that not everyone can see well and needs those sidewalks. Image yourself being blind and you will understand what he goes through. Your thoughtfulness will be greatly appreciated.

Twisted facts?

We continue to see Sound Offs where writers twist or misstate facts to fit their agenda. President Trump asked Ukraine to investigate the Bidens. This is a fact. It is in the transcript. He did not ask Ukraine to interfere with our elections. You can speculate all day long about what he meant, or what he did was a felony, that’s fair. But to say he asked Ukraine to interfere with our elections is untrue. Just to clarify.

There’s a reason

I am a Christian. Always have been. But there is a reason for not having religion in government and schools. When the Constitution was formed, they had separation of church and state for a reason. Who's religion would you use? We were founded as a country where a person can have freedom of religion. This has held strong for 200 years.

Tiresome commercials

We enter 2020 with the hope that some restrictions on robo calls will somewhat reduce the unwanted telephone calls. We now need to evaluate TV commercials. There most rewarding commercial for me is the Shriners St. Jude Hospital ad for children. The most tiresome commercial for me would be Liberty Mutual Insurance.
