Sound Off for Jan. 2, 2020
Just ask
I see Sound Offs saying that a road, railroad crossing, sidewalk or traffic light needs to be fixed or changed. These people would get better results if they sent an email to the authorities who can actually do something about it. I had good luck emailing MDOT about a couple of traffic lights that had bad timing on U.S. 90. I got a fast reply both times from Kelly Castleberry, the District 6 engineer. Within a week the timing was changed on one light. The other light wasn't changed, but he explained why. Both times I had an answer quickly. You might be surprised at what can be done if you ask the right person. Unless you just like to complain.
Flawed thinking
In the immediate aftermath of the Texas church shooting, it’s no surprise that liberals, some Democratic presidential candidates and a scad of media outlets think more gun laws and restrictions on gun owners will prevent such crimes. What stopped this attack, in the 5 seconds of its duration, was lawful gun owners who had volunteered to be on a church security team. They were the first responders.
No coverage
The best college team in Mississippi from 2010-2019 received little press from the Sun Herald: Mississippi State women’s basketball.
How much?
It’s a good idea to send a loud message to the Corps by filing the Bonnet Carre lawsuit, but exactly how much is that law firm charging the taxpayers? There will be no monetary reward, so why should lawyers be the only beneficiaries of a man-made disaster?
Bad timing?
Glad to see the Army Corps is being sued over the spillway. Just wondering, why it is all done after the fact? We should have stopped this when it was going on.
One solution
To the person in Sound Off complaining about still being in the wind pool, he will be getting a letter shortly from the Wind Pool Association informing him that he will have to complete a new application with 100 percent replacement cost coverage in order to avoid nonrenewal and/or cancellation. One solution is to shop the “marketplace” with other agents who have other less expensive “wind/hail only” markets as well as insurance companies who include wind/hail in their policies.
Ideology matters
For the most part, political parties are or can be defined by ideology. This is why most people vote down party lines.
Why they come
No one is coming to America, legally or illegally, for socialism. They are coming here to find economic opportunity, individual liberty and the protections of our Constitution and Bill of Rights. They are fleeing communist and corrupt dictatorships to come here.
