Sound Off for Dec. 31, 2019

Young blood

I wish more young people would step into politics. Especially on city councils and as mayors. We need new young ideas and need to let the retirees who are in office now go do something else. If you know someone young that would be good, encourage them to run for a office.

Some suggestions

Dear MDOT: You ever heard of preventive maintenance? You should use it on the Back Bay bridge. And have some annual bridge operations training.

A puppet?

I don’t think U.S. Rep. Steven Palazzo is a thinker. He only does what he is told to do. He is a perfect Republican and backer of Trump, but a poor representative for Mississippi.

Season of giving

If you missed giving at Christmas, do it for New Years. Thank all the people that service your house: trash collectors, mailman, grass cutters. They could use a little cash. Where would we be without them?

Enough is enough

It's been almost 15 years now. When is somebody going to do something about homeowners insurance? I am still in the wind pool and the only reason is greedy insurance companies who have absolutely no reason to stop the gravy train. When and how much is enough?Did you know an owner of a small insurance agency can make more than a doctor?

Information overload

Watching the cable news shows is baffling to me. If what the people on the screen are saying is of value, why do they run a scroll at the bottom of the screen containing different news. Maybe it's just me, but I can't both read the words streaming by and listen to the people talking at the same time. It's overload.

Health care costs

My husband and I pay $800 a month for health care. This includes Medicare. We go wherever we choose, most of the time Emory in Atlanta? Why? Because they are one of the best. You see, health care insurance benefits those who can pay for it. Not fair? No it isn’t, and morally not right. Lt Gov. Hosemann has decided for us in Mississippi that we don’t want Medicaid for all. Why? Because he and his family have good insurance.

Wake up America

I saw a young man on TV who had debilitating psoriasis. It was painful and limiting in his body movements. There is a prescription drug that takes care of this, but his health insurer would not cover the cost. Wake up, America. This is the only developed nation in the world that does not take care of its sick people. Medicare for all is not a pipe dream. Do not let big insurance and big pharma tell you that it is too expensive. Vote for the candidate who wants to see that we all get health care when we need it.
