Sound Off for Dec. 30, 2019

Give back

Hi friends, remember during this precious holiday that “the best things in life aren’t things.” Yes, it is the giving season but we can give by visiting a person in a nursing home that has no family, raking a neighbor’s leaves who can’t, picking up a few groceries for a shut-in, haul an elderly persons trash bins, etc. There are wonderful numerous ways to give. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy Hanukkah!

Strange times

We have once again arrived at a moment in history where the truth can be defined as “that which you can make other people believe.” The methodology for creating that belief is repetition. Say something enough times and it becomes, for millions of people, the absolute truth.

Truth?

As George Carlin once said, “Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.”

Don’t question

To Ghost Riders, how do you know the drivers are able-bodied? A person may have back injuries, fibromyalgia, scoliosis, hip displacement or cancer. Do you have X-ray vision? Do you ask your verification to know if the handicap tags and rearview mirror decals are being abused? Are you asking to see their driver’s license, medical records, questioning their doctor for signing the handicap tag form? If that handicap person is in the car and has a handicap tag or decal, then they have every right to use the handicap parking.

Deciders

In response to “Who Decides?”, I have to believe the MDEQ is in a better position to make decisions about local water conditions. The EPA has lost many scientists in the last 2-3 years, and they have also rolled back some of the laws that protected all of us from pollution and a variety of toxins in our air and water.

NFL has changed

The NY Times NFL article equates today’s NFL with the past. Today’s teams all want the best player at every position to make the team a winner. It uses Kaepernick as an example of current bias, Really? The chances he has been given are unbelievable. I don’t like him because he wore socks depicting cops as pigs and shirts with dictators on them. As a white fan, my two favorite quarterbacks are Dak Prescott and Russell Wilson, but Lamar Jackson should most likely be the MVP. I think some people just try to promote racial division.

Restricted access

I’m a disabled veteran, ex-Air Force and often go to Keesler AFB with my retired Air Force father to the hospital using my driver’s license. But due to the Pensacola shooting, you have to have a military ID to get on base. What are they going to do in January when us vets have the right to go to the commissary?
