Sound Off for Dec. 29, 2019

Freedom for wine sales

I have a pragmatic request for the state Legislature based on reading the Sun Herald analysis story regarding the GOP leading the way on softening laws on gambling and drinking. Please get out of the wine business. Let the people join wine clubs, and let grocery stores sell wine. The economic boom resulting from stores moving into Mississippi like Costco, Publix and Trader Joe’s just to name a few would be fantastic! The people would have better selections and lower prices too. It’s a win-win.

No bias

Apparently the guy living on the bench seems to be doing OK. He’s been there for like 6 months. If a rich person was to go setup camp there they would be getting the same feedback. It’s illegal and unsanitary.

Best wishes

I wish I could gift you that bench! Hoping things are better for you in the coming year. To all of you who think you are too good for this to happen to you, believe it or not, we hope you are right. Hoping for a great holiday season for everybody especially you!

Why the vote?

Could Mr. Palazzo please educate your constituents on why you voted to scale back a law that protects marine life and speeds up federal approval for Louisiana’s coastal restoration projects (such as the mid-Breton diversion) and applications for oil and gas drilling? (See Roll Call 12/15/19) It would be helpful to know what, if anything, you are doing to protect the Mississippi Sound, given the threats of the last few years, resulting in unprecedented marine life death which threaten our way of life on the Coast.

Natural filter

In response to the outlandish suggestion to pump beach drainage 15 miles offshore, readers should know that the only practical solution is to plant large areas at each current outfall with wetlands plants that will naturally and aesthetically purify the discharge. It’s affordable and will require no ongoing maintenance. Let’s do it! This project screams for BP money.

No excuses

No one ever said to remove all public statues relating to Southern history. The only statues that need to be removed are statues of people who supported slavery. Slavery is against everything Jesus taught. Jesus taught us to love everyone and treat others like we want to be treated. If you are not Christian, basic morality should make you realize that owning people of any color just isn’t right.

Thank you

Merry Christmas to our garbage collection guys. I put out my barrel as they were going down my cul de sac, and they didn’t want to stop on way back but they did. I understand people are inconsiderate to you all year round on a tough job. But this aging lady thanks you.
