Sound Off for Dec. 27, 2019
No drive-bys
I was disheartened to learn that all those lights were turned off at Jones Park on Christmas Eve. A group of friends drove there to enjoy the display as part of their Christmas.
Too high
Why is the Harbor Lights so expensive? The average family can not afford $10 per person! It should be $10 per family. It’s not a fundraiser, it’s for the community!
No holiday
To all the businesses that were open on Christmas Day: Shame on you!
One true ad
I was disappointed when reading the comics in the Christmas edition of the Sun Herald that not one related to the true meaning of Christmas. Most were about Santa and gifts. Then I read the rest of the paper and was touched by the full page ad sponsored by Hobby Lobby. Thanks.
Christmas wish
Please fix the railroad track crossing on Eisenhower by the mall.
No fun
Driving on I-55 recently, I was distracted by the “cutesy” digital signs created by the Mississippi Department of Transportation. It was like trying to read a text. Better would be simply “Buckle up” or “Slow down.”
No gas tax
Delbert Hosemann’s local option for gasoline tax is not a good idea. It puts those businesses that have to charge more for their product at a disadvantage. For the most part these are small businesses and it’s hard enough to make it as small business now so don’t put them in an unfair situation!
Limit menhaden?
Once again the Commission on Marine Resources ignores the facts, turns a blind eye to potential ecological disaster and dismisses common sense, all in the name of — politics? The failure and refusal of the CMR to limit the take of menhaden means that this valuable natural asset could be completely wiped out in one season. The refusal to limit the bycatch of this industry means that fewer gamefish will be available for our responsible fishermen. How do we explain to our children and grandchildren that these policies are good for the environment?
Holiday lights
All the thousands of motorists that have to negotiate the White Avenue and Irish Hill intersection daily want for Christmas is for the City of Biloxi to get the traffic light synced. It continues to work on a timer rather than a traffic-sensitive mode. The westbound lane of Irish Hill from White Ave. to the school grounds has numerous potholes that have existed for years now that maybe a $100 of asphalt could eliminate.
