Sound Off for Dec. 21, 2019

Checks and balances

Can anyone tell me how to report Gulfport’s water department? It seems unlawful that they are charging these astronomical fees when it is no fault of the consumer. It does no good to talk to the employees at the water department or to contact the mayor's office. We certainly need some check and balances of this department.

Why now?

I cannot understand why Mike Bloomberg is spending big bucks on so many TV ads in this area. We have not had any Democratic presidential candidates in this state that I know of and we don’t even have a primary until next spring. So why so many now?

Payback coming

Congrats to the Democrats and the media. It only took you three and a half years to impeach your enemy. But remember this. What goes around, comes around. Payback is in 2020.

A sad day

Shame on the Democrats in the House of Representatives. No matter how they try to spin the impeachment proceedings, it comes down to pure hatred of President Trump. The impeachment is politically motivated and along partisan party lines. Precedent has now been set. If you do not "like" the president, impeach him. A sad day, and I fear for my country's future.

Impeachment rhetoric

Nancy Pelosi is finding out that as Abraham Lincoln once stated, “a house divided against itself cannot stand.” After putting this republic through almost three years of unrelenting impeachment rhetoric and having completed the most partisan, unfair impeachment process in the history of the republic, Pelosi is unprecedentedly refusing to send the articles of impeachment forward to the Senate unless she is guaranteed a conviction. I’ve found it ironic that the Democrats, that care nothing of the Constitution or the republic, have farcically began citing it and the founders with reverence and prayers as if they actually believed it.

An entitlement?

This is to the writer of “bad information.” You got a big point wrong. The liberals have not called social security an entitlement. That belongs to Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader of the senate. I have seen him say that on many occasions when he talked about cutting social security and Medicare. The Republicans have often called these programs entitlements so they can get their hands on our benefits we paid for, and we are finding out that some rich people are getting bigger payments than they were entitled to. I guess we need a watch dog group to watch and protect our benefits we earned.
