Sound Off for Dec. 17, 2019

Nothing good

“The Great Christmas Light Fight?” is on TV. And it’s on for two hours. Guess that proves we have no good programming in television anymore.

A simple plan

Everyone knows, if you call for an appointment, you can see a nurse practitioner within a day or two, and weeks or a month for the doctor. If your problem is serious, you want to see your doctor. Nurse practitioners are OK for cold, flu, earache, etc., but if I am having severe headaches or pain, I want to see the doctor. I have been misdiagnosed by an nurse practitioner. Solution: Save one-third of a doctor’s appointments for within 24 hours of a given day, with specific criteria for those appointments.

Thanks Frank

Even Gov. Phil Bryant was on hand for the official completion of the Cook Road project, set to be an economic boost for west Jackson County. But many of us remember that former Supervisor Frank Leach was the visionary on this project and he deserves a lot of credit for always seeing the bigger picture.

Lane check

Did I read this right? The Cook Road expansion will have a shared middle turn lane, a bike lane but only two lanes of traffic? If so, I foresee another expansion to four lanes causing an overall higher expense later. Do it right the first time.

Got the message?

The NFL sided with Colin Kapernick when he kneeled during the playing of our national anthem in a veiled protest of how African-Americans are being treated. Now with vast numbers of empty seats at their games, one has to wonder if they get the message from we, the people. Protest yes, but disrespect our anthem, our flag and our military and we, the people, will retaliate.

One solution

To the person wondering where to take their plastic bags for recycling ... please take the bags to your local animal shelter. That’s where we take ours. The animal shelters use the bags for items that are bought in their stores.

Unsafe conditions

There is an individual who has set up on one of the benches on U.S. 90 across from Edgewater Mall. He has numerous plastic bags stuffed under the bench, a cart on the sidewalk and other obstructions. The individual is causing unsafe conditions on and around the bench. He needs to be removed.

Help him

If you are someone that knows of resources to help the homeless person living on the bench at the beach in front of Edgewater Mall, then please help this person. Otherwise, cold and uncaring individuals will continue to write to Sound Off. We help kids with toys at Christmas and adopt animals, so why not help this human being?
