Sound Off for Dec. 14, 2019
Pay attention
If Mardi Gras pass is a model for the Mid-Breton Sound Diversion, we know what the results will be — catastrophic for the brackish Louisiana estuary, the Mississippi Sound and the Gulf Coast economy. Why do you think there is a waiver of the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) for the Mid- Barataria Sediment Diversion? Why is it needed if the diversion will not be harmful? It sounds like an $800 million dollar train to me. Hard to stop.
Vintage?
The past few years have brought us an overzealous “word police.” The latest attack on a decades-old wintertime traditional song, “Baby It’s Cold Outside,” is ridiculous. Ban it or change the words. Not a peep from these “word police” on some of the rap music with language that would make a drunk sailor blush coupled with phrases that dehumanize women.
Two sides
History has to have two sides, Southern history included. If you want to remove all statues linked to Southern history, do it and that includes the other one in Oxford and new one in Hattiesburg.

Where are these national polls obtaining opinions? We’ve personally have never been polled for years. Most people I know don’t answer unknown telephone numbers (Robo and solicitations). These educated and statistical polls are either listening through artificial intelligence, stupid street interviews or their imaginary wishes. Get real and tell us the true sources of these polls.
Look up
I recently was rear-ended while stopped at a red light by a young person. No injuries involved, but very costly damage to both vehicles. I had noticed the involved driver was driving while distracted a couple of red light previous to the accident. While waiting for law enforcement to arrive, we exchanged insurance information, took pictures, etc., and had a brief conservation. The driver said several times, “I’m so sorry!” Distracted driving is against the law! But you can look around and see people driving the speed limit texting, or head down and looking at their cellphones. Sorry just isn’t good enough!
Question
I recently had a cosmetic procedure performed by an estetician in my dermatologist’s office. I paid by credit card and there was a place for a tip. I tip servers 20% because the make sub-par pay. How much do I tip professionals?
